Roulette odds: Work out your payout

Before you take your seat at the table, it’s important to know how Roulette odds work.

That way, you can calculate your potential Roulette winnings before you place your bet. Read on to find out more about Roulette odds in this short blog.

What are Roulette odds?

Roulette odds work in the form of x to 1. So, for every £1 you place, you’ll receive x amount. For example, a single number is 35/1. So, you’d get back £36 (£35 plus your £1 stake) if you bet £1 on a number and that’s where the ball lands.

Take a look at the table for a full breakdown of Roulette payouts.

Outside bets

Outside bets, sometimes known as ‘even money bets’, offer a higher chance of winning. They pay out at 1/1, so you’ve got almost a 50/50 chance at winning. But the house has a slight edge because if the ball lands on zero and you haven’t covered it, your bet will not win.

Outside bets include Red or Black, Odd or Even and 1-18 or 19-36. If you bet £10 on red and it comes in, your returns will be £20 (£10 stake plus £10 winnings).

Inside bets

This is where things get a little more interesting. Inside bets offer a higher payout, but less chance of winning. Let’s look at some of the types of inside bets.

Straights – these are bets on single numbers. Straights have the highest payout at 35/1.

Splits – this is when you split your bet across two numbers. These payout at 17/1.

Street – this is a bet across three numbers and pays out at 11/1.

Corner – these cover four numbers and payout at 8/1.

Six line – this is a bet across six numbers and pays out at 5/1.

Top 4 tips when playing Roulette

As with all casino or table games, there is no guaranteed way to win. But there are a few things you might want to keep in mind.

1. American Roulette v European Roulette

European Roulette has slightly better odds than American Roulette, because there is only one zero, unlike the stateside version, which has two. So, many players prefer the European game.

2. Prepare a strategy

It’s always good to go into the game knowing how you are going to play. There are plenty of roulette strategies out there, like the Martingale for example. But remember, this is not a guaranteed way to win, just something to help you along the way.

3. Keep it fun

Perhaps the most important tip. Always keep it fun and never bet more than you can afford to lose. It’s good to set a limit before you play.

4. Lightning Roulette

Aside from the traditional Roulette games, several games have been released in recent years that offer a twist to the classic game. Lightning Roulette is one of those.

During each round, lightning can strike up to five numbers and increase the payout up to 500x. An example of lightning roulette odds is where a £1 bet on a single number would usually return £36, in Lightning Roulette, it could pay out up to a massive £501!
