What Are Casino Betting Odds?

Whether you’re playing online or in a casino, one of the most important things to get to grips with are odds and probabilities. Different games have different payouts, so it’s key to know what these are, especially if you’re just starting out.

Roulette odds

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games around and offers a wide range of betting options, which is just one the reasons it is loved by so many. In Roulette, there are two types of bets, inside and outside bets. Outside bets, such as red or black, offer shorter odds, but are more likely to land. Whereas inside bets, like single numbers, offer higher payouts.

  • Red or black: pays 1 to 1
  • Odd or even: pays 1 to 1
  • Columns (for example, 1-12): pays 2 to 1
  • Single number / straight up: pays 35 to 1

As with all casino games, the house will always have the edge. In the standard European game, the house edge is 2.70%, while in the American version this rises to 5.26%, due to the double zero. So, where you have the choice, the European variant is usually the way to go.

Blackjack odds

Blackjack is another casino staple, and you need to know the odds before you play. Typically, the house edge is less than one percent, but this can vary depending on the game.

Baccarat odds

Although Baccarat isn’t as well-known as Roulette and Blackjack, its popularity has risen over the years, and it’s easy to see why.

The aim of the game is simple. Two hands are dealt at the start of each round: one known as the Player hand, and one as the Banker hand. The object of the game is to predict which of these two hands, Player or Banker, will have a total card value closest to 9 without going over. The payouts in a standard game of Baccarat are as follows:

  • Player and Banker hands – 1 to 1
  • Draw – 8 to 1

There are a wide range of different Baccarat games to play online, so the odds and probabilities are likely to differ from game to game, such as the unique Lightning Baccarat, which could see winnings multiplied by up to 8x.
